Cast Requirements:
*Ensemble of 17, most roles will be DOUBLED, two characters are off-stage only (but may be doubled with another on-stage role.)

Trina: Proprietor of The Snowflake Inn, funny, competent, and relentlessly cheerful, she’ll finally come unhinged when Mr. Boykin pushes his demands a little too far.

Mr. Boykin: Annoying and demanding guest at the Inn, a classic complainer, off-stage voice only.

Lou Ida: Cook and housekeeper at the Inn, grumpy and stressed, gets drunk on brandied peaches, off-stage voice only.

Cuddles: Weekend guest at The Snowflake Inn, mysteriously costumed as Mrs. Claus and having trouble keeping her story straight, seems to be meeting Binky for a secret affair.

Binky: Dressed as an elf and ready for love, he’s at the Inn to meet Cuddles for her weekend away from Santa Claus.

Hoyt: Nervous brother to Donna-Jo, hatches a plan to get his aunts to reconcile after a long feud.

Donna-Jo: Sister to Hoyt, spunky and loyal, surprises her brother by arriving with Della, then takes the rap for him.

Della: Elderly aunt to Donna Jo and Hoyt, estranged sister to Ennis, voracious knitter, feisty but sweet.

Ennis: Elderly aunt to Donna Jo and Hoyt, estranged sister to Della, obsessed with germs and vermin, curmudgeonly and quick-witted.

Ainsley: Melodramatic and grand, breaks into The Snowflake Inn during intermission for a local production of A Christmas Carol, in costume as Scrooge, intent on burying the ashes of his theatrical mentor, Gareth, in the backyard.

Lenora: A perfect counterpart to Ainsley, she’s his long-time acting partner and friend, in costume as Mrs. Fezziwig for the same production of A Christmas Carol, loyally helping Ainsley in his quest to fulfill Gareth’s final wish.

Paulette: Long-suffering stage manager, in pursuit of her two escaped actors, forced to grapple with a suspicious declaration of love from Ainsley.

Honey Raye Futrelle: Firebrand who’s getting married for the sixth time, even though she has some serious doubts about the groom.

Twink Futrelle Buntner: One of the Futrelle sisters, she’s determined to be supportive of this wedding, but feels a little insecure.

Frankie Futrelle Dubberly: A little more practical and sarcastic than her sisters, she hesitates to get swept up in the wedding madness, and seriously struggles with her outfit.

Rhonda Lynn Lampley: She’s cooking up the wedding feast with the help of her assistant, Raynerd, and she hobbles on a cane due to some fried-food-induced gout in her foot.

Raynerd Chisum: A sweet, angelic man who’s helping to prepare for Honey Raye’s wedding and keeps accidentally imparting life wisdom to the others while being unintentionally hilarious.

*The play takes place in the tiny town of Tinsel, Texas, so Texan or Southern accents are a plus. Doublings may change, but will probably be:
Cuddles/Lenora, Binky/Ainsley, Hoyt/Raynerd, Paulette/Rhonda Lynn, Ennis/Honey Raye, Della/Twink, Donna Jo/Frankie

*Trina plays herself throughout the play, and the two off-stage roles will be performed by whomever is most convenient.

Ages: Because most of these roles are costumed and wigged, they can accommodate a wide range of ages, from 20s-60s in most cases. The actors who play the 80-year-old aunts will also play much younger characters.

Line Load: There is a moderate line load for all characters, divided equally amongst the roles because of doubling. (The exception is the two off-stage roles, which are light.)
Plot Synopsis:
At The Snowflake Inn in tiny Tinsel, Texas, it’s Christmas 365 days a year, but now it’s almost the real Christmas, and proprietor Trina Walcott has her hands full. If it’s not her grumpy housekeeper or a demanding guest who has her on the run, then it’s the couple on a romantic tryst who seem to be Mrs. Claus and—scandalously--one of Santa’s elves. Or the brother and sister scheming for their eccentric aunts to reconcile their ancient feud over a broken Christmas ornament before they kill each other. Meanwhile, a couple of seasoned thespians have escaped from a local production of A Christmas Carol on a quest to bury their theater mentor’s ashes in the Inn’s back yard, with their stage manager in hot pursuit. Finally, Honey Raye Futrelle plans to wed her sixth husband at the Inn on Christmas Eve, with the help of her three sisters, some truly shocking bridesmaid dresses, and a dinner of chili cheese fries--but is this really the groom she wants? Hijinks and hilarity ensue, but we know that all will be calm and bright by the time Christmas arrives.
